Hippity Hoppity, Easter's on its Way
It is our last day of school before Easter break and our classroom has been full of holiday activities. This morning we dyed Easter eggs during morming literacy centers. The kids had a bunch of fun & I don't think we got "too awful" messy! haha

Dr. Seuss
Yes, I am definitely a week late in wishing Dr. Seuss a "Happy Birthday". At least we aren't celebrating the day a week late at our school.
Last Friday, our students (in the whole school) got to rotate around to the different classrooms to particiapte in listening to stories, fun activities, and visiting Seussville in the computer lab in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday! (If he was still alive he would be 108)

inspecting our seeds to get ready to plant them
Mrs. Johnson reading I can name 50 trees!
Mrs. Bowman reading The Lorax in the 1st grade classroom
A truffula of trees
(each leaf states about a way to help the earth or a way to show kindness to someone at New Franklin)
our tree made out of the whole school's handprints
In our own kindergarten classroom, we did a little more celebrating
Riley wanted to try on my Dr. Seuss hat
Even Kinder Bear joined in on the celebration
Mrs. Connie Kelly came into our classroom as a guest reader from the Rotary Club and read There's a Wocket in my Pocket

100th day of Kindergarten
Well in case you missed the memo, yesterday was our 100th day of kindergarten and we had a WONDERFUL, learning-packed day :-)
We started off the morning by making a paper chain that was 100 links long
using a dice to roll to 100 with a partner

For journal time, we wrote about 100 things that we could eat and 100 things we could not!
We read Hetty's 100 Hats
Predicted how long 100 seconds was
Colored a 100 picture page
Read Centipede's 100 Shoes
We've come to school for 100 days,
The time has just flown by.
Five months, two seasons and we're half way done,
When another surprise does arrive.
It's the 100th day of school today.
Let's start the day with a grin.
For tomorrow will be 101,
So let the celebration begin.

Happy GroundHog Day
well if you missed the big news of the morning, Mr. Punxsutawney Phil
did indeed see his shadow, scaring him back into his hole with a prediction of another six weeks of winter. Want to read the whole story? Phil sees his Shadow

The kids have actually been talking quite a bit about this calendar day in bits and pieces all week. This morning, we were blessed with an hour's time (usually spent in the computer lab but 2nd grade was taking their ISIP assessment) to learn more.
We read Substitute Groundhog were Groundhog is too sick to perform his duties and so he interviews other animals to help him by coming out of his hole on Groundhog Day
Afterwards, we made our own groundhog book (check out your child's folder to see their own personal copy)
This afternoon, when I caught the sun poking out from behind the clouds, we quick went out onto the playground to go shadow hunting

I have a dream
All week our kindergarten class has been learning about Martin Luther King Jr.
- We listened to a book called Young Martin Luther King, Jr. "I have a dream
- We read a little paperbook during guided reading about Martin Luther (complete with circling words from our word wall and locating his name throughout the text)
- We created portraits of Martin
- We listened to another book entitled Happy Birthday Martin Luther King Jr
- We watch a short video on his life and famous speech
And we wrote a speech about our dreams are:
(here is what a few of the kids wrote)
Ezra: "My dream is that all trash is picked up."
Gavin: "My dream is that I don't get bit by a shark."
Kamden: "My dream is that I spend time with my mom and dad."
Dakota: "Me and Luke are superheroes."
Adrianne: "I don't have to go to the doctor anymore."
Sophia: "I wish that Martin Luther King Jr. did not die."
Clara: "My dream is that everybody would love each other."
