Today the kiddos of New Franklin Elementary got a nice treat. Day One - ugh: a no special day. What's better then? An assembly! From the CASHS steel drum band!! The kids had a blast. They were clapping to the beat, swaying to the music, and taking it all in. The kids really did a great job! I hope they come back next year.

Earth Day
Did you know today was Earth Day? Our class got to have a brief discussion about Earth Day yesterday in school before we left for break where we talked about what Earth Day means and how we can help our planet.
We read a great book that is perfect for the younger audience to understand Earth Day and how we can help out:
Every Day is Earth Day by Jane O'Connor
Some "green rules" that Fancy Nancy's class came up with are
- "Less than a mile? Then bike in style"
- When shopping: "Please take a note. Always bring a tote."
- "Don't waste water. Get clean, but stay green."
I encourage you to talk with your family about ways to "be green" in today's world.
For more ideas check out this website:
Here's a fun project to do to get started!
Backyard birds won't know the difference between a fancy, store-bought bird feeder and one that's homemade, so save your pennies and make one out of an empty milk carton. Cut openings on opposite sides of a clean carton and coat with nontoxic paint. Glue Popsicle stick shingles onto the roof. For a perch, poke holes below the openings and slip a dowel through the holes. Fill the bottom of the feeder with birdseed mix. (You can make your own mix by combining a variety of nuts and seeds, such as sunflower seeds, millet, thistle seeds and yellow corn.) Then hang the feeder with wire in a spot that's easy to view but far enough away from fences or posts to thwart predators.

Easter's on its way
Today was a great day in kindergarten! We dyed eggs (I can't believe some of the kids have never done this before...) and the kids had a blast.
They got to dye two eggs and then take them home at the end of the day (RED ALERT - parents check bookbags and get those eggs into the fridge ASAP! lol)

We also got a new book to add to our home libraries from Chase Martin. A new book by Laura Numeroff titled Happy Easter Mouse. (the same author who brings you If you take a mouse to school, and If you give a pig a pancake or If you take a mouse to the movies and many more) The kids are really excited to bring this book home and read it with a grown up or older sibling because they are able to read many of the words also!
At the end of the day, I gave them a goodie bag, Miss Naylor gave them an egg filled with a surprise, and Julian handed out Easter pencils. I hope you all enjoy the time off (if you get any) and have a blessed Easter. I will see you back at school on Tuesday, the 26th (Sorry, parents, my calendar skills were off while writing last week's weekly news when I said the date was the 25th on Tuesday)

New Children's Books
So after I got all the kids on the bus this afternoon, I hung around school for awhile (yep, not gonna lie - I was messing around on this website playing with my new blogs) because this evening I headed over to Andrew Buchanan to attend a "What's New" in children's literature workshop. It was (to use my 14 year old daughter's words) "O-Mazing!"
We moved
